Arriving at the Crash

Just when I thought the night was over, we heard a broadcast on the scanners saying there was a crash on Cawthra at the QEW. Five people had been hurt. The impact was so tremendous that it ejected two people. One of the victims was a two year-old.

On our way to the crash, the ambulance carrying the two year-old to Sick Kid’s Hospital passed us on the highway. When we got to the crash, Jeremy was already on scene. The police were putting up  yellow tapes while we were setting up our cameras.

The police later announced the crash was fatal. One of the victims died at the hospital. The zoom on my camera showed me the devastation of drunk driving on a first hand basis.

The entire side of one car was ripped off. The other vehicle was upside-down. This reminded me of the various highway signs that read “Arrive alive. Don’t drink and drive.” This message might be clearer if everyone could see the effects of alleged drunk driving up-close like did.

My condolences go out to the families involved with this unfortunate event.
